Leave?
Seriously, Road Atlanta is 45-50 minutes from Athens. If there is a track day or something else...
There's also the North GA mountains...and US-64 in North Carolina through the Nantahala National Forest...

That sounds awesome! Sadly my parents will be with me this time. There is a chance I am getting a job down there this summer. If that happens, the mountains will be explored.

Drive up to the North GA mountains have some fun. The roads that lead to that weird town that looks like Germany are pretty fun.

And you are only 90 minutes from Atlanta Motorsports Park, too.
There are plenty of groups who do track days, and places are close by. I have all my entries paid for through June.

Helen, GA is the town you are thinking of.
And there are better ones, but you have to be willing to cross the state, from Gainesville towards Blue Ridge and Ellijay.

If you like REM, it's a cool town. Stop at the local little tourist info place, last time I was there, like 15 years ago, a little old lady was very helpful in pointing out all the REM trivia about the place.
See if there's any good shows at the 40 watt.
Record shopping.
There was this weird t-shirt, headshop, trinket place, can't remember the name but it was cool.
